The AFCON U-20 tourney began yesterday 27th April 2025 in Egypt with the first match being Zambia U-20 vs Sierra Leone U-20. The next game match was between Egypt U-20 the host versus South Africa U-20. The opening ceremony was colorful featuring a worldclass football event. The future young African footballers from 13 teams battling for the continental title.

AFCON U-20 Day 1 Results
The first match of the tournament was between Zambia U-20 versus Sierra Leone U-20 of group A. The match ended in a barren draw. Though the teams had chances to score. Neither side capitalized on the scoring opportunities.
Zambia had 15 shots with four shots on target. However, Sierra Leone has a 60% ball possession. Currently, Zambia is second followed with Sierra Leone.
On the other hand, Egypt U-20 won their first encounter against South Africa U-20 1-0. The young South Africans had a good game but were unlucky to score. Mohamed Abdallah El Hadad who plays for Al Ahly FC scored the only goal at the 62nd minute.
Upcoming AFCON U-20 Matches
The second game of the tournament will be on 30th April 2025 with South Africa taking Tanzania U-20 at 18:00 EAT then Sierra Leone U-20 against Egypt U-20 at 21:00 EAT.
The first group b match will be between Nigeria U-20 vs Tunisia U-20 on 1st May at 18:00 EAT. Later Kenya U-20 will take on Morocco U-20 at 21:00 EAT.
Group C’s first matches will be between Central African Republic U-20 versus DR Congo U-20. The Ghana U-20 will play against current champions Senegal U-20.
Favorites to Win the African Cup of Nations Under 20
Senegal the defending champion is taunted as the favorite to win the AFCON Under 20. However, there are other strong teams in this year’s championship. The likes of Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia have a high chance to win the tournament.
But who will challenge the young Teranga lions? This will be known at the end of the tournament on 18th May.
